Welcome.
Firstly, a bit of an introduction! The “Mrs. G” is rather obvious, given my surname, but it
is a title given to me by a group of special children who will always remain in
a special part of my heart. Before
I became a woman-on-the-land and a-sometimes useful-helper in the breeding of
fine Limousin cattle, I lived in a little country town which had just opened a
brand new Swimming Pool and I became it’s first Pool Manager and Swimming
Coach. As I co-erced my
enthusiastic squad of children into
believing that they could swim more than a handful of laps of the 25 metre pool
without any of their limbs falling off, they came to realise that I could offer
them something in the way of fitness, plus something they could excel in and
enjoy. If they wanted to be the
next Dawn Fraser [Dawn was MY era] or Michael Klim
[THEIR era], or if they
wanted simply to improve their stroke, then I worked with them.
These are the children who gave me the name of “Mrs.G”.
As most of my squad came from farms and did not live in town, then it
took some special parents to bring these children in for a 5.30a.m. start, and
as I didn’t want them to eat anything much before training, then the only
solution was to have breakfast afterwards -
at Mrs G’s. Some of the children came more for the breakfast, than the
actual swimming, I'm sure, but it all made for a very special squad.
The number of cereal containers in my kitchen grew steadily, and the
improvement in swimming in this small country town also.
There were only two children in town who wouldn’t train and their names
were Anthony and Dean Graham, yet they would go along every Monday night to
Swimming Club and swim times for all four strokes that broke the coach's heart
– if only they would come to training, I could have them at State Title level
without too much trouble at all.
I have decided to include a recipe each time I update this
page, as recipes are always interesting to read to see if THIS cook knows
anything about food. I profess to
being a rather old-fashioned cook, plus I am not a great one for strict
measuring and weighing of ingredients. If
I have it in the pantry and the recipe says it has to go in, then fine, I’ll
use it – if not then there’s always something else that MIGHT do the job.
After all, how else does one come up with new and interesting meals?
I
hope you enjoy Mrs.G’s page, and I look forward to any responses,
recipes or handy tips you would care to email me.
