This is the pointy end of the herd. Only the best of the best qualify to become donors. Remember, Talana operates on an open herd policy, everything is available for sale at any time. We don't withhold the best. If you've heard about it, have seen it, are interested in it and want it, it is available for sale. Just ask. We will sell donors mid-program, stud sires mid joining. We will even flush any of our females to the sire of your choice or provide frozen embryos or pregnant recipients.
Semen for Astute Commercial Breeders
At the moment, the only Talana bred semen that we are offering for commercial breeders is from GLG Richter. Once other stud sires have been proven and deemed worthy, semen from other sires will be available.

This sire is now fully proven, highly predictable and quality equivalent to any AI sire on the market. We are confident that he will perform over a number of cow bases and for most markets.
Richter is available to commercial breeders at $7 per straw plus handling and freight.
Hartside Branston
Branston was imported live from Britain in the 1980's and has proven himself to be a very capable sire. One of our foundation cows MEM Louise is sired by Branston, as is another young heifer that may make the donor pen GLG Utiera. From our experience, progeny from Branston would best be marketed as vealers or domestic trade cattle. However, if you have big roomy cows, Branston would really deliver and provide for the heavier markets as well, all the way up to heavy bullocks.
Branston is available to commercial breeders at $10 per straw plus handling and freight.

Is nothing sacred at Talana? We do all the work, get them to the point of calving and someone wants to buy our pride and joy! Remember our open herd policy: everything is available for sale. If you are really fortunate, you may be able to find a pregnant recipient with an embryo calf already at foot, a three in one package.
About a dozen pregnant recips are currently available. Joinings include Storm x Tabius and Rayne x Irakou. We are flushing again at the end of '03 and the beginning of '04.
